Harajuku

Today we went to Harajuku, an area on the western side of Tokyo, famous for the "Harajuku girls" who dress in elaborate costumes and come to one area for photographs. That's a little misleading, since not all are keen on being photographed, or at least play coy with tourists. I took a lot of pictures, but only the "cutes" are really open to the photograph with the tourist.

Amazing shoes...
and hats (part of what seemed an "Alice in Wonderland" motif, I think)...
A Goth, with a specially colored contact lens:

Some advertise "free hugs"...
and then some definitely do not give the hug vibe...

These two were doing an elaborate performance of being photographed.
These two were smiling and having a good time until they posed for the photograph; apart from some of the "cutes," most of the girls would put on an affect of apathy or nonexpression.
